Tail Graft
There is a recurring theme in the curves I use for many of the component parts that go in to Tui and Kiwi models.
You can see this in the bridge and again reflected in the top of the headstock and also the end of the fingerboard. Using the same theme for the fingerboard end was actually an idea that came from one of my clients; one of those ideas that seems so obvious after the fact! I used it and it really works so I have incorporated it into all subsequent instruments.

The tail graft is another area that I have in many ways neglected over the years until I started redesigning my new heel for the Tui. It got me thinking about other aspects of the instrument and the tail graft was something that I thought could use a lift from the plain taper I have previously used. The end result is a new tail graft with curves, again with reference back to the similar curve ideas already in the design.

It is a little tricky to do compared to the easier straight line design but it is fun and I think it adds a touch of class that makes the extra effort well worth it.
