The Lloyd Loar design of the mandolin is one of my favourite instruments. In a way, it represents my own ethos of luthiery that combines a deep respect of tradition with the freedom to innovate. Its genius lies in the way it takes the traditions of the violin family and adapts those design elements to fashion a completely fresh and original instrument.
