| New Zealand Native Species
Totara - lovely silky grain. I use it for the neck. Can have beautiful figure and can be used for back/sides.
Rimu - Very colourful and can be highly figured
Taraire - A beautiful timber similar in grain to tasmanian blackwood or Koa. I have some nicely coloured stock that makes great back & side sets.
Puriri - Extremely dense, grey timber that colours to a golden black with a cider rust stain. Difficult to work and has big grub holes but I am going to make something cool out of this one day!

Exotic Species
Ebony - many varieties but I like dark black with a few streaks of brown for effect. Used for fingerboards, bridges
Macassar Ebony - the new black, currently my favourite for binding and background veneer for rosettes, headstock and also looks great for custom tuner knobs.
Cocobolo - Beautiful deep reds and dark streaks. Main uses as for Macassar ebony although I have a few sets for back/sides.
